This project explores the longing for stability in a world defined by impermanence. Through photographs taken across different countries, alongside archival portraits of imagined kin, it traces an inner journey shaped by childhood displacement, emotional turbulence, and the search for a home that may not exist. What emerges is not resolution, but a quiet tension — a fragile attempt to remain still within a life marked by constant movement.

About the photographer

Lilia Gross

Lilia Gross (*1989) is a multidisciplinary artist from Moscow, Russia, based in Cologne, Germany since 2011. Working across photography, video, and animation, her practice reflects a life shaped by movement: born in Poland, raised in Russia, and now living in Germany, her transnational experience has profoundly influenced her artistic perspective. She is currently studying at the international academy of documentary and art photography Fotografika. Her work is driven by a sustained curiosity about the human condition and the spaces we inhabit.Lilia’s practice spans staged and reportage portraiture, travel and street photography, as well as documentary and conceptual work. Through her lens, she explores the forms and rhythms of urban landscapes, the subtleties of emotional states, and the metaphysical qualities of everyday objects. Her images contemplate how individuals navigate and interpret their surroundings, seeking to capture both the visible and the intangible dimensions of lived experience. Her artistic journey is grounded in a commitment to authenticity and storytelling. Lilia aims to document real, unembellished narratives, examining the intersection between personal memory and collective history. Her work reflects on resilience, displacement, and the deep connections we forge with the environments around us.In 2025, she was shortlisted for the GOMMA Black and White Awards with the project Upon That Vast and Foreign Ceiling.
