Total Theater

The project was shot in May-August 2023 at 2 local experimental theaters in Almaty, Kazakhstan - "Total Theater" and "Transforma Theater". Twentyfive years ago, I was studying at Theater School and came very close to becoming an actor, this experience had a significant influence on my personality and this project is dedicated to this experience. Theater is a complex community where the performance is only the public, external symbol of the internal theater processes. In this project, the boundary between the audience and the stage is broken, encompassing what happens before and after the performance. In every person multiple characters are residing: how they see themselves, how they would like to be, and how others perceive them. In an actor, there are additional characters coexist: roles, vision of those roles, how other actors and audience perceive those roles. The project has a native theater's cycle, reflecting the rhythm of theater life.
