The Ukraine Project
16 Jan, 2025
"I have been photographing Ukraine since 2009. This country is literally changing right in front of me. In this uncertain and challenging time of social, economic, and political change for Ukraine, the images I capture are extremely fleeting - much like this world that is passing away. I am aware that it will disappear irreversibly in a moment. The enduring legacy of the Soviet Union, which, despite decades of independence, continues to cast a long shadow over Ukraine, is being erased by rapid changes in the way of life and its quality. Society is multidimensionally opening up to the West, eagerly adopting its patterns. However, this rapid Westernization sharply contrasts with regions where Western influence has yet to make a significant impact, areas that remain deeply rooted in older traditions and ways of life. Since 2014, the looming threat of war with Russia has influenced every part of life."
