Before The Scaffolds

01 Feb, 2022

Before the scaffolds there was separation in nothing â€” Everything originated and ended within nature. Now it is technology that shapes and destroys our world. The scaffolds we use to build our cities are at the same time the bars of a cage we have made around ourselves. A cage to deny our innermost, and place us into the productive crowd.  I wanted to bet the limits of the silence. To place myself at the edge of all things, afar from the everyday and closer to the essentials of life. Most like my images; To erode the idea of time and commonplace to construct a sort of epiphanic rendering of life. Yet all trips are just that, a brief discontinuation — a circular gravitation around one’s point of return and another departure.  It seems paradoxical to me that, at last, where I find much of the solace I’m craving for is back home, sitting long hours In the dark of my room — worshiping the shadows — working almost obsessively on my images. Squints at what remains and lingers,

About the photographer

David Molina Gadea

Born in Tarragona on 30 October of 1991, David studied Arts at Massana School in Barcelona from 2009 to 2012 where he found his way of expression and started exploring photography. In 2015, David embarked on a year-long placement in Belgium as part of the European Voluntary Service (EVS) working especially with refugee centres. This experience gave raise to his work “The Long Way Home”, which was published in the British Journal of Photography’s September 2016 issue and was exhibited at the Holburne museum in Bath, Uk. And “The human apart” that was exhibited in the City University of New York. With a passion for artistic expression and creativity, he balances his time between his own photographic practice and his work as Artistic Director at LA NUU Photography Festival in Rubí, Barcelona. He reached the shortlist in Burn Magazine’s 2015 Emerging Photographer Fund and was shortlisted for the renowned Gomma Photography Grant award in 2016. He recently published his first monographic, Go to Become, with the Slovenian publisher The Angry Bat. He’s one of the finalist in Burn Magazine’s 2018 Emerging Photographer Fund with the book project Go to Become and has been shortlisted again for the Gomma Photography Grant 2018.
